LEC participated in the construction of an AC/DC converter station connecting the Åland Islands to Finland via an undersea cable, ensuring stable power supply and enabling the shutdown of an obsolete thermal power plant. The project included installation of high-voltage equipment, creation of primary connections, relay protection and automation systems, converter cooling systems, as well as laying control and power cables. This was a unique project—Latvia has no similar facility that converts 80 kV DC to 110 kV AC—providing LEC with valuable experience in complex electrical installations and a chance to demonstrate its technical expertise, which the client acknowledged with positive feedback.
