This past Saturday, June 21 — the only warm and sunny day of the week — around 140 colleagues and their family members gathered at the picturesque Līcīši recreation complex on the banks of the symbolic Daugava River for the LEC Family Sports Games. The theme of this year’s event: a nostalgic journey back to the 1980s and 1990s.

With the average age of our company’s employees around 40 — the prime of life — many still fondly remember the days when cassette players filled every room with music.

The day could not have been more perfect for creating joyful new memories: it was sunny, vibrant, and packed with activities. Water adventures such as raft rides and the so-called “banana boat,” cheerful relays, lively music, colleagues in colorful and creative costumes, a spirit of competition, and shared moments made for a heartfelt festive atmosphere.

Several individuals shone in the individual disciplines — Beate Āboltiņa, Aivis Sokins, Andris Baltausis, and Sintija Osīte — showing agility and endurance, and stepping onto the winners’ podium multiple times.

In the team events, true sportsmanship reigned. Team Zibeņi (The Lightnings) dominated, taking first place overall by winning both towel-ball and dodgeball. Teams Lāpstas (The Shovels) and Spuldzes (The Lightbulbs) also put in strong performances, each demonstrating team spirit and perseverance.

The event concluded on a high note with a performance by Latvia’s first freestyle rap improv group, Brīvrunu projekts, who composed — one might say — an anthem for LEC and humorously celebrated the unique aspects of our industry.

See you at the next celebration!
