The Krievu Island infrastructure development aimed to move bulk cargo operations out of Riga’s historic center, thereby reducing the city’s environmental footprint. The main contractor was Skonto Būve. As part of the project, 80 hectares were developed, including four new berths and a 1.5 km transition section linking new and existing port infrastructure. Nearly three million cubic meters of soil were relocated during dredging works. The project also included construction of access roads and 12 km of sorting railway tracks, significantly enhancing the competitiveness and capacity of the Port of Riga.
LEC was responsible for rebuilding a 1.3 km long 110 kV cable line, installing ship power connection equipment, constructing 10/0.4 kV utility networks, and installing lighting and traffic signals at road and railway intersections. A major highlight was the testing and implementation of the ShoreBox™ system — a ship power connection solution. A special test module was developed to simulate a ship load at 6.6 kV and 2 MW capacity, resulting in the first ShoreBox™ installation in the Baltic Sea region.
