The project involved the reconstruction of six hydro units at Riga HPP, including the replacement of turbines and stators, refurbishment of control systems, renewal of runner chambers and turbine covers, as well as thrust bearing and segment replacement. Rotor restoration and pole replacements were performed alongside a full overhaul of the technical water, unit control, and oil control systems. All primary and secondary electrical systems were replaced, accompanied by extensive construction works.
To complete this large-scale project, LEC overcame challenges such as strict safety and quality requirements and the coordination of a diverse team. One major task was the cleaning and painting of large-scale components. The project also incorporated modern technologies such as 3D laser scanning and new planning methodologies like the Last Planner System. It received high marks for occupational safety upon completion.
